No,no, that's not suspicious AT ALL.

So, I don’t typically like to comment on things that the media is going bonkers about unless I’m actually commenting on the media itself, but this one perked up my ears:

Report: S.C. governor says he was in Argentina.

A little back story: After the South Carolina legislative session ended, the governor, Mark Sanford, claims he took a little “me time.” He told reporters that he took a drive up the coast. But his staff said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. And now, he says he was in BUENOS AIRES. As in Argentina. Ok, strange, but still not beyond the realm of possibility. Maybe that was tough legislative session, and he needed some time out of the… hemisphere. But the going gets real weird when we learn that his wife and four kids, his office, and the State Department of Law Enforcement that is tasked with his protection all had no idea where he was because he flew the coop.

Say what? It’s one thing if I take a weekend and run to the beach to clear my head. It’s stranger still if I don’t tell my lovely wife. But when the head of government of a mid-sized state goes missing for a week, that’s cause for concern. And it’s even more alarming when he comes back and states that he jaunted off to another country on a different continent over Father’s Day without so much as telling his family.

Interesting fun fact: Sanford’s name has been floated as a possible 2012 Presidential candidate.

Score one for the media actually pointing this out.

EDIT: Not that anyone suspected it or anything (wink wink, nudge nudge), but turns out Sanford was having an affair.  What is it with possible Republican nominees admitting to extramarital affairs recently?  I mean, it’s not unusual to learn that members of the Family Values Party are nailing their secretaries or trolling for sex in airport bathrooms, but they don’t tend to be presidential hopefuls.  That honor is typically reserved for Democrats, fuckyouverymuch John Edwards.

I am completely in love with this story, it’s better than most soap operas.
